Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile phone) when you visit a website or use a web application. Cookies allow the site to recognize your device across multiple visits or page loads and can store a variety of information including session identifiers, user preferences, analytics data, and feature flags. Cookies set by the website you are visiting are called "first-party cookies." Cookies set by other organizations through the website are called "third-party cookies."
Related technologies that function similarly to cookies include: local storage (browser key-value storage that persists until cleared); session storage (browser key-value storage that clears when the tab is closed); and web beacons (small image files embedded in web pages or emails that register when a page or email is viewed). This Cookie Policy covers all of these technologies when used on cropkernx.com or in the CropKern web application.

CropKern uses cookies and similar technologies for four primary purposes: maintaining the security and functionality of your logged-in session; remembering your preferences so you do not need to reconfigure settings on each visit; understanding how users interact with the platform so we can identify and prioritize improvements; and, where you have opted in, enabling us to provide relevant communications about platform updates and new features. We do not use cookies to serve advertising or to build profiles for advertising purposes. CropKern does not participate in cross-site behavioral advertising networks.
These cookies are required for the CropKern platform to function. They cannot be disabled without preventing you from using the service. Strictly necessary cookies include:
cropkern_session - Session authentication token. Type: First-party, session cookie (expires when you close your browser or log out). Purpose: Maintains your authenticated session after login so you do not need to re-enter your credentials on each page. This cookie contains a cryptographically signed token that does not store your password or personally identifiable information in readable form.
cropkern_csrf - Cross-site request forgery protection token. Type: First-party, session cookie. Purpose: Prevents cross-site request forgery attacks by verifying that form submissions and API calls originate from authenticated CropKern sessions.
cropkern_remember - Persistent login token. Type: First-party, persistent (expires 30 days after login when "Remember me" is selected). Purpose: Allows you to remain logged in across browser sessions if you select "Remember me" at login. Clearing your browser cookies logs you out immediately.
cropkern_consent - Cookie consent record. Type: First-party, persistent (expires 12 months). Purpose: Records whether you have acknowledged the cookie notice on cropkernx.com so we do not display it on every visit. Does not store your choices about individual cookie categories - that is handled by your browser settings.
Functional cookies enable features that enhance your experience but are not strictly required for the platform to operate. Disabling these cookies may affect the comfort of your experience but will not prevent you from using the core service.
cropkern_map_prefs - Map view preferences. Type: First-party, persistent (expires 90 days). Purpose: Stores your last selected basemap layer (satellite, terrain, or street), zoom level, and center point for the parcel map view so the map loads where you left it on your next visit.
cropkern_dash_layout - Dashboard layout preferences. Type: First-party, persistent (expires 90 days). Purpose: Stores which dashboard widgets are expanded or collapsed and the order you have arranged them.
cropkern_units - Measurement unit preference. Type: First-party, persistent (expires 12 months). Purpose: Stores your selected unit system (US customary or metric) so that soil moisture, ET, and yield values display in your preferred units across all platform views.
cropkern_alert_filter - Alert severity filter. Type: First-party, session cookie. Purpose: Stores your current alert severity filter (all, high-priority only, or custom) for the alert dashboard during your active session.
Analytics cookies help us understand how users interact with CropKern so we can identify usability problems, measure feature adoption, and prioritize development work. The data collected by analytics cookies is aggregated and does not identify individual users by name. Analytics cookies are set only on the marketing website (cropkernx.com) and the logged-in application.
_ga, _ga_[ID] - Google Analytics 4 measurement cookies. Type: Third-party (Google LLC), persistent (_ga expires 2 years; _ga_[ID] expires 2 years). Purpose: These cookies assign a randomly generated identifier to your browser to measure unique visitors, session duration, pages viewed, and user flows through the website. The information is transmitted to Google Analytics servers in the United States. IP addresses are anonymized before transmission. We use Google Analytics under a data processing agreement that prohibits Google from using CropKern visitors' data for Google's own advertising purposes. You can opt out of Google Analytics measurement by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on available at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
cropkern_feature_usage - Internal feature analytics. Type: First-party, session cookie. Purpose: Records which platform features (map view, forecast reports, irrigation schedule export, sensor dashboard) were accessed during your session. This data is used to measure feature adoption rates in aggregate. No identifying information is included.
cropkern_perf - Performance monitoring. Type: First-party, session cookie. Purpose: Records page load times and API response times observed by your browser to help CropKern's engineering team identify performance bottlenecks. Data is reported in aggregate and does not include Customer Data.
These cookies are set only if you have opted into specific communication features. They can be cleared without affecting your access to the CropKern platform.
cropkern_notif_prefs - Notification preferences. Type: First-party, persistent (expires 12 months). Purpose: Stores your in-app notification preferences (alert sound on/off, desktop notification permission, email digest frequency) so your preferences apply consistently across devices.
cropkern_email_track - Email engagement tracking. Type: Third-party (via our email service provider), session-level web beacon. Purpose: When you click a link in a CropKern transactional or notification email, the link may pass through our email provider's tracking system to record which email prompted the visit. This helps us understand whether service notifications are actionable. You can disable email click tracking by configuring your email client to block remote images or by using a privacy-focused email browser extension.
The CropKern platform embeds certain third-party services that may set their own cookies:
Mapbox - CropKern's parcel map view uses Mapbox GL JS for basemap rendering. Mapbox may set cookies or use local storage to cache map tiles and improve map rendering performance. Mapbox's privacy policy is available at mapbox.com/legal/privacy.
Stripe - Our payment provider, Stripe, Inc., sets cookies during the checkout and subscription management flow to prevent fraud and verify your browser session. Stripe's cookie policy is available at stripe.com/privacy. Stripe cookies are set only on pages where payment processing occurs and are strictly necessary for payment security.
Intercom - If you use the in-app support chat, Intercom may set cookies to maintain your support conversation across page loads. The Intercom messenger is loaded on-demand and its cookies are only set if you interact with the support chat. Intercom's privacy policy is available at intercom.com/legal/privacy.
You have several options for managing cookies set by CropKern and third-party services on cropkernx.com:
All modern browsers provide controls for managing cookies. You can configure your browser to block all cookies, block third-party cookies only, clear cookies on browser close, or delete existing cookies. Note that blocking strictly necessary cookies (particularly the session authentication cookie) will prevent you from logging in to CropKern. Browser cookie settings are typically found in the Privacy or Security section of your browser's settings menu. You can opt out of Google Analytics measurement by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. You can opt out of our internal feature analytics by disabling non-essential cookies in your browser settings. Opting out of analytics does not affect your access to the CropKern platform's core features.
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal that communicates your preference not to be tracked across websites. CropKern does not currently modify its analytics cookie behavior in response to DNT signals, because there is no industry-standard framework for how to honor DNT signals in a way that is consistent across different web services. If you wish to opt out of analytics cookies, please use the methods described in Sections 5.1 and 5.2 above.
The CropKern iOS and Android applications do not use browser cookies. The mobile applications use device-level identifiers and secure local storage for authentication tokens and user preferences. You can clear stored application data through your device's application settings. On iOS, you can limit app tracking identifiers through Settings - Privacy - Tracking. On Android, you can reset or limit the advertising identifier through Settings - Privacy.
